Inglewood Presents Car Free Sunday: Embrace the Pedestrian Experience

Lace up those sneakers or grab your bicycle, as Inglewood is all set to launch Car Free Sunday on Sept. 17. This initiative aims to encourage Calgarians to stroll and roll through the neighbourhood while showing support for local businesses. The main vein of Inglewood (9 Ave. SE from 11 St. to 14 St.) will be closed to all vehicles on this particular Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Businesses will have the opportunity to extend their storefronts to the sidewalk, providing visitors with a chance to enjoy Calgary’s original main street without the usual hustle and bustle of cars and trucks. Community residents and Calgarians alike can relish the neighbourhood’s organic state, accompanied by live music from buskers, dining on expanded patios, and plentiful sidewalk shopping at some of the city’s finest local retailers. In partnership with the City of Calgary, the Inglewood BIA has designated alternate parking areas for visitors to the area.

This initiative also pays homage to a bygone era in Inglewood’s history when pedestrians reigned supreme. Inglewood is proud to be one of Calgary’s most accessible neighbourhoods by bike, with plenty of scenic cycling paths. It’s the perfect destination for those who want to leave their vehicles behind when visiting the neighbourhood for Car Free Sunday on September 17.
