Inglewood Presents Car Free Sunday: Embrace the Pedestrian Experience

Lace up those sneakers or grab your bicycle, as Inglewood is all set to launch Car Free Sunday on Sept. 17. This initiative aims to encourage Calgarians to stroll and roll through the neighbourhood while showing support for local businesses. The main vein of Inglewood (9 Ave. SE from 11 St. to 14 St.) will be closed to all vehicles on this particular Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Businesses will have the opportunity to extend their storefronts to the sidewalk, providing visitors with a chance to enjoy Calgary’s original main street without the usual hustle and bustle of cars and trucks. Community residents and Calgarians alike can relish the neighbourhood’s organic state, accompanied by live music from buskers, dining on expanded patios, and plentiful sidewalk shopping at some of the city’s finest local retailers. In partnership with the City of Calgary, the Inglewood BIA has designated alternate parking areas for visitors to the area.

This initiative also pays homage to a bygone era in Inglewood’s history when pedestrians reigned supreme. Inglewood is proud to be one of Calgary’s most accessible neighbourhoods by bike, with plenty of scenic cycling paths. It’s the perfect destination for those who want to leave their vehicles behind when visiting the neighbourhood for Car Free Sunday on September 17.

For more information on Car Free Sundays and other events happening in the community, visit inglewoodyyc.ca and follow along on Facebook (@inglewoodcalgary),  Twitter (@inglewoodyyc), and  Instagram (@inglewoodyyc).

It’s like taking a deep dive into the emotional abyss, but in a really beautiful and thought-provoking way. So grab a tissue (or three) and get ready to be moved.

Our next stop is the VIVIANEART gallery, where you can feast your eyes on thelatest exhibition by Calgary-based artist Sarah Ardean. For those of you looking to immerse yourselves in Indigenous art, make sure to check out Moonstone Creation. So come on down and get your cultural enrichment on!

Next up, we have Circa Vintage Arts Glass, a true gem in the Inglewood community. Owner Brian Imeson has been bringing stunning mid-century European art glass to collectors across Canada and North America for 20 years now, and it’s not hard to see why his gallery is so beloved. The pieces on display are like works of art you can actually use – or just admire, if that’s your thing. Either way, it’s definitely worth checking out.

Last but not least, we have The Collectors’ Gallery of Art. This place is like a candy store for art lovers, with an incredible collection of pieces created by some of Canada’s most talented artists. From traditional to contemporary, this gallery has it all. So why not come on down and treat yourself to a little slice of artistic heaven? You know you want to.
