We are Inglewood

The Original Main Street and
Commercial District

9th Avenue SE, formally known as Atlantic Avenue and Whiskey Row, has been around since the early 1880’s;  with the creation of this historic avenue came numerous industries, such as slaughter houses, sawmills, notorious hotels, saloons, and of course the Brewery, known as 'Brewery Flats'.  These establishments in addition to many others helped shaped the foundation for one of Calgary’s oldest, most interesting neighbourhoods named Inglewood.

From its industrial past to its present status as an arts and culture hub, Inglewood is known for historic buildings, creative culture, and weirdness. Inglewood has a history being a blue collar, hard-working community that embraced grit, creativity, and innovation.

Today, Inglewood still has the proud, gritty feel within the neighbourhood throughout areas of industrial, commercial and residential, full of many nooks and crannies. It is a pedestrian-friendly place where visitors and residents can walk along a path or trail, or enjoy boutiques, coffee shops, art studios, breweries and safe public spaces to meet up with old friends and make new ones.

We are a community with GRIT. We are on the other side of the tracks – the creatives, artists, blue-collar workers, innovators, and changemakers. Our neighbourhood reflects hard work, community, and collaboration. It is raw, authentic and real. We are Inglewood.
